Check support before installation

Find your exact device model and check the app provider’s supported-device list. Google TV or Android TV branding alone does not guarantee every broadcaster app. When an app is unavailable from the official store, ask the provider or manufacturer rather than downloading an unofficial substitute.

  • Open the supported device’s official app store.
  • Search for the provider, confirm the official publisher and install the supported app.
  • Sign in with your own account, using the activation instructions shown by the app.
  • Review parental settings, subtitles, audio description and optional data choices.
  • Keep the device and apps updated through their official settings.

Free and licensed are separate checks

A free ad-supported service should be distributed by an authorised provider. A zero subscription price does not automatically remove the TV Licence requirement for live viewing. BBC iPlayer also requires a licence for on-demand use. Check rights-holder terms, UK availability and TV Licensing guidance.

Formuler-class and Linux devices

Do not assume a Linux box can install Android or Google TV apps. Read the manufacturer’s documentation for the exact model and use only the official software sources it supports. If BBC iPlayer, ITVX or another essential service has no supported app or authorised route for that device, choose compatible hardware instead. We do not configure broadcast playlists or unauthorised reseller access.

Use BBC iPlayer Help, ITVX device support and TV Licensing for current information. For an error, send its wording and your model number to support, without passwords or security codes.
