Before you start
Confirm your exact device supports the UK apps you need. Have your Wi-Fi details, manufacturer-approved power supply and your own Google account available. Live TV and BBC iPlayer require a valid UK TV Licence. Paid subscriptions are separate.
- Connect the device to a spare HDMI input and its approved power supply. Select that HDMI input on the television.
- Follow the on-screen language, region, network and remote-pairing instructions. Choose the UK where appropriate; do not misrepresent your region.
- Sign in with your own account. Keep passwords and verification codes private.
- Install available system updates through the device settings and restart if asked.
- Use the Apps area or search to find an official supported app. Check the publisher, then install it.
- Open the app and follow its own account activation process. Do not use unofficial downloads to work around unsupported hardware.
- Check subtitles, audio description, display size and parental controls to suit your household.
If setup stalls
Record the model and exact error. Check power, the TV input and your connection. If an app is missing, confirm model support with the provider. Do not factory-reset without understanding what it will erase. A television without HDMI needs an assessment before buying a kit.
See Google’s official app-installation help. Menu names and available apps can change.
